Somehow the first quarter of the year has concluded already. I feel as if time is constantly escaping us. We’re three days into April, and the weather has been miserable, but through the raindrop-stained windows, I can see the trees and flowerbeds beginning to bloom.

If you’ve been keeping up, I’ve been reading East of Eden by John Steinbeck for the last three months. I finally finished it. There is so much to process, but it has become one of my absolute favorite books. Over the span of 600 pages, you follow the multi-generational journey of two families. It was incredible to watch the way each character develops and see familial patterns unfold before your eyes. Some people claim the book to be a retelling of the biblical story of Abel and Cain, and I disagree to an extent. There are clear connections stated in the book, but there is an external depth to East of Eden which allows it to stand on its own. As someone who is not religious, I did not find the religious connection to be a theme that interrupted my reading experience. It is a phenomenal story that requires time to fully analyze. I truly cannot stress my recommendation for this book enough!
As much of my writing reeks of nostalgia, it is no surprise that I immerse myself in memories occasionally. This month hasn’t been particularly eventful, so my highlight was a Friday afternoon spent digging into all the trinkets I have saved from friends and memories. Letters from friends, postcards I wrote journal entries on during trips, change from foreign countries, old journals, photographs, random tickets, and pamphlets I’ve hoarded as keepsakes. Also not photographed is another highlight: a night spent with good friends, people who get me, getting burritos, and sitting for too long in the local ice cream shop on a Friday night.
Lately, I’ve been in the habit of writing down beautiful moments or moments I wish to remember. Here are some of them.
Happy Spring, friends. Warm days and bright skies are ahead.
All the love,
B xx
